AUTHOR GUIDELINES

Cornerstone Journal of Community Engagement (CJCE) publishes scholarly articles derived from community engagement, community service, empowerment, training, mentoring, professional assistance, technology implementation, social intervention, and other activities that have been directly implemented with communities or partner institutions.

CJCE does not primarily publish conventional research articles that only report research findings without community implementation. Every submitted manuscript must clearly demonstrate an actual engagement activity, the target community or partner, implementation process, community participation, outcomes, benefits, and evidence of impact.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Manuscripts must be original, have not been previously published, and must not be under consideration by another journal.

2. The manuscript must be based on a community engagement or community service activity that has already been implemented.

3. The target community, partner institution, beneficiary group, or other community stakeholders must be clearly identified.

4. Manuscripts should demonstrate meaningful community participation and explain how the activity addressed a real community problem or need.

5. Research instruments and analytical methods may be used to evaluate the activity. However, research findings must support the evaluation of the community engagement activity rather than become the primary purpose of the manuscript.

6. Manuscripts may be written in English or Bahasa Indonesia. Authors are strongly encouraged to use clear academic English. The title, abstract, and keywords should be provided in English.

7. Manuscripts must follow the official CJCE article template and formatting requirements.

ETHICS AND COMMUNITY DOCUMENTATION

Authors are responsible for ensuring that community engagement activities are conducted ethically and respectfully.

Where manuscripts contain identifiable photographs, personal information, quotations, institutional information, or other potentially sensitive material, authors must obtain appropriate consent or permission before submission.

Photographs should primarily document the activity and its implementation. Authors should avoid unnecessary disclosure of personal identities and should respect the dignity, privacy, culture, and rights of community members.

ORIGINALITY

Manuscripts must represent the authors' original work. Plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, inappropriate authorship, and misrepresentation of community engagement activities are not acceptable.

The editorial team reserves the right to conduct similarity screening and request revisions or reject manuscripts that do not meet CJCE's originality and ethical standards.

EDITORIAL ASSESSMENT

All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts may be returned to authors before peer review if they:

- fall outside the focus and scope of CJCE;
- report conventional research without actual community implementation;
- do not clearly identify the target community;
- lack evidence of implementation or community participation;
- do not follow the journal template;
- contain serious ethical or originality concerns; or
- do not meet minimum academic writing standards.

Manuscripts that pass editorial screening will proceed to peer review.

CJCE emphasizes:

  • REAL IMPLEMENTATION
  • MEANINGFUL COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION
  • MEASURABLE OUTCOMES
  • KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER
  • INNOVATION
  • SUSTAINABILITY
  • DEMONSTRATED COMMUNITY IMPACT
